Folding Electric Tricycle

Folded it is 100 cm long, 81 cm high and 40 cm wide (16 inches), and it takes about 30 seconds to get there. That is narrow enough to go through a standard motorhome, caravan or canal boat door, and it will go in most car boots. Boots and garages vary more than people expect, so if you are close to the limit, ring us with your measurements and we will tell you straight.

Customers have put the folded trike in a Honda Jazz, a Vauxhall Astra and a Kia Picanto, and plenty of other cars besides. Put the trike on its centre stand, which is only there for folding. Release the centre folding bolt by moving it out to the side, then lift it out of the draw bolt hole; the two movements are a safety feature. Swing the whole front of the trike back towards the rear wheels. At the left rear wheel, press the small silver button and drop the wheel down, which helps lock the front in place, then do the same on the right. Finally, undo the black lever anticlockwise to lower the handlebars. Once you have done it a few times it takes about 30 seconds.

32 kg complete. With the battery (3.5 kg) and the seat off it is 28 kg, and that is the weight you actually lift. If loading is the part you are worried about, ring us before you order and we will talk through how other customers manage it.

At least 30 miles on the 36V 13Ah lithium battery, even with the power on all the time, and further if you only use it when you need it, on hills and into headwinds. There are three levels of pedal assist and a walk assist button that moves you along at walking pace without pedalling. The controller also has a full throttle mode, which is for off-road use on private land only and is not legal on public roads. The battery lifts off, so you can carry it indoors to charge, and it takes 4 to 5 hours from flat.

That is who Peter designed it for. Three wheels mean it stands up on its own, so you can stop, rest and set off again without ever putting a foot down, and the dual parking brakes hold it still while you get on and off. We cannot tell you whether it suits your own health needs, so the honest answer is to ring us or come and try one at a show. Three wheels feel different from two, and ten minutes on it usually settles the question.

Possibly. The trike can be bought zero-rated for VAT if you are chronically sick or disabled, or if you are buying on behalf of someone who is. Eligibility is set by HMRC rather than by us, so we cannot tell you whether you qualify. You confirm it yourself with a short declaration in the basket. That is a legal statement rather than a discount code, and it cannot be added afterwards, so read it before you buy and ring us if you are unsure.
